Shalala, Mountain View, CA (No. X)

It must be a record that I fainted 3 times in my car parked on the curb.  When I woke up, I have completely no idea where I was and what I was doing.  haha. I thought I just landed on earth! lol.  Not recommended for children to imitate. lol.

When I had my conscience yesterday, I did went to eat ramen! With the back of my mind that I could faint in the car, I went to shalalalalala. The chef actually was sitting outside smoking 9pm in the evening.  haha.  The waitress informed me that they have a new ramen, shoyu yuzu raman and I did give it a try!

I was so hungry I devoured it. lol.  In the bowl, there are 2 pieces of pork dumplings which is nice change of piece.  The soup is more on the bitter end of yuzu with the mix of shoyu.  The yellow mesh on the bottom right is actually yuzu smash.  If you like it not as strong, make sure to take that part out.

Thank god that I did not faint while driving home yesterday. lol.  When my cousin asked me for recommandation of ramen and sushi places in Tokyo, I just cant help to think what if I am in Tokyo now. lol. FOOD!!!!

Afuri, Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan

Winter break!

Hope everyone has a good start of 2012!  I certainly did because I am enjoying my time in Japan with my parents and friends.  So nice to see everyone again.  Couple things I did learn this trip.

1. Karuizawa (軽井沢) is a summer destination.
2. Pudding Jam. Enough said.
3. Nothing is open on Jan 1st.  and most small stores open on the 5th.
4. Found 1-2 cheaper clothe shops in Japan around Omotesando Hill area.
5. People are lazy. lol.

Last but not least.
6. Ramen still rules!  Even with limited shop opened.

I went to the same store 2 days in a row! Thank god that the workers are different.  This store is called AFURI (アフリ) and they are located at 3 locations: ebisu, harajuku, and nakameguro (new!).  I am amazed at this place because 1 year ago only 1 store (ebisu) is opened.  Their number 1 ranking ramen is yuzu-shio ramen (ゆずらーめん) , which is shio ramen with citron flavor.  The uniqueness is that most yuzu is produced in Japan and ramen shops in other countries only now started to put yuzu in their soup.  I did have the yuzu-shio on the first day.

With the light citrus flavor. appetite would actually increase! Without it, the soup would be more ordinary than wow amazing.  From the first sip, nothing is heavy about it. Plus around the chashu area, there are the extra bbq sauce from the chashu to change the flavor.

Noodle is thin noodle and very chewy.  With that said, the noodle can suck in tons of soup flavor quickly, make it very compatible with each other.

Egg is always good. lol.

Second day I had the shoyu yuzu ramen, which I found the flavor is about thte same except the after taste is stronger.  I did add kakuni (fat meat) into the soup for extra money and found that it is not worth it.  Also, I tried the other kind of noodle with extra money and wasnt worth it.  hahaha. come here too often.

One things about Afuri is that they grill the chashu in front of you, literally like in the kitchen.  So cruel!!

No matter how big the vacuum is, no use!! haha.

Most of my friends I brought here like the noodle, including 6 of them this time.  Thanks guys for waiting for 40 minutes in line!!

If you are in Tokyo, please give this shop a try!

If you would like to read my post from my previous blog about this place (in Chinese):
